Oregon election results will start coming in at 8 p.m. Tuesday, but John Horvick said the count will keep changing after that. Ballots postmarked by Election Day will continue to arrive and be tallied throughout the week, so early returns will not settle every race.

Horvick, a pollster with DHM Research, joined FOX 12 on Monday to walk through what voters should watch when the first drop is released. He said, “Right now, it’s really about affordability and sort of a sense that government’s not functioning well.”

Horvick used the Monday appearance to focus on the races drawing the most attention in Oregon and Washington. He said the Oregon governor’s race between Tina Kotek and Christine Drazan remains highly competitive, with public polling in Oregon limited in the final weeks of the campaign.

He also pointed to the 3rd Congressional District race in Southwest Washington, where Marie Gluesenkamp Perez and John Braun have drawn significant national funding and attention. For voters watching those contests, the first returns will offer a snapshot, not a final count.

Ballots after Election Day

The timing matters because ballots postmarked by Election Day can still enter the count after Tuesday night. That means the first release at 8 p.m. Tuesday will show initial results, while the official picture keeps developing as more ballots arrive and are tallied.

Horvick said national polls have leaned toward Democrats in key Senate contests, but he also said modest polling errors could still produce strong Republican showings. That mix leaves early election-night numbers vulnerable to overreading if voters treat the first tabulation as the end of the race.

Oregon and Washington counts

Voters in Oregon and Washington will be watching the first numbers closely, especially in contests that already look tight. The results released Tuesday night will help show the direction of the races, but the weeklong ballot count is what will shape the final outcome.
