G. Elliott Morris reports Virginia Election Results turnout lead

Virginia election results showed Democrats voting at a rate 9-10 percentage points higher than Republicans on Election Day. G. Elliott Morris reported the gap on November 3, 2026 using data from State Navigate.

The turnout chart he used did not appear to include every locality in Virginia. That limits how far the statewide margin can be stretched, even as Fairfax County reported 34.09% total turnout by 9 a.m., compared with 30.1% at the same point a year earlier.

State Navigate and Virginia Tech

Morris drew on State Navigate, which is run by Virginia Tech grad Chaz Nuttycombe. The data site’s chart showed Henrico County with a high turnout rate and James City County with a lower rate, giving readers a partial view of where participation was strongest.

By the same 9 a.m. checkpoint in Fairfax County, 6.19% of registered voters had cast ballots that day and 27.9% had voted early. A year earlier, Fairfax County reported 6.2% voting that day and 23.9% voting early at that hour, while its final turnout last year reached 55%.

Beth Macy and Ben Cline

Cardinal News reported at 1 p.m. that Former President Barack Obama had recorded a robocall for Beth Macy, the Democratic candidate in the 6th District who is challenging Republican incumbent Ben Cline. The call highlighted her support for a data center moratorium, and Obama said, “If you send her to Congress, she’ll fight to lower everyday costs, make healthcare more affordable, and pass a moratorium on data centers,” according to.

Macy has made the moratorium more central to her campaign, while Cline has indicated support for a pause on data centers. With polls in Virginia opening at 6 a.m. and closing at 7 p.m., the turnout figures point to a late-day test for whether the Democratic edge seen in the data holds once all ballots are counted.

Virginia Department of Elections

Cardinal News said it would post live results from the Virginia Department of Elections after polls closed. Statewide turnout last year was 54.31%, and Fairfax County’s higher 9 a.m. pace suggests the final total could move above that mark if the current trend continues.
