Alabama Elections 2026 reaches Election Day Tuesday, and voters are choosing their next governor, U.S. senator and four proposed constitutional amendments. In central Alabama, polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central time, and anyone not in line by 7 p.m. cannot vote.

AlabamaVotes.gov and ID rules

Voters can check registration, polling place and sample ballot at AlabamaVotes.gov, and they may take a marked sample ballot into the polling place for personal use. Alabama’s ballot rules also require an approved photo ID, including an Alabama driver’s license or non-driver ID, an Alabama photo voter ID, a U.S. passport, military or tribal ID, and certain government or college IDs.

A voter whose name is on the poll list but who lacks an approved ID can still cast a regular ballot if two election officials positively identify them. If those officials do not make that identification, the voter may cast a provisional ballot instead.

District 2 and District 6

Some voters will also see district-specific races. In District 2 for State Board of Education, Jamie McCurry faces Tracie West, and in District 6, Angela Morgan faces Cathi Bradford. Those contests sit alongside statewide races, so the ballot is not the same for every voter across Alabama.

State House voters will also see local matchups in District 15, District 16, District 32, District 35, District 40, District 41, District 43 and District 45. Because the ballot differs by district, voters do not have to vote in every contest or on every amendment.

Nov. 6 ID deadline

Election Day also leaves a short window for voters who use a provisional ballot because of missing ID. They have until 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, to provide acceptable identification to the Board of Registrars for that ballot to be counted. Provisional ballots are reviewed after Election Day.

Voters who requested an absentee ballot but did not receive or return it may ask to cast a provisional ballot in person, and a mailed absentee ballot must be received by the county absentee election manager by noon Tuesday. For voters who have not checked their paperwork yet, the decision is no longer only about the ballot itself; it is also about whether their ID and registration details are ready when they arrive.
