Travis County election results had not been reported after polls closed at 7 p.m. on Election Day, and a county spokesperson said at least one polling location was still working through a line of voters. Anyone in line by 7 p.m. could still cast a ballot, and the county said all Travis County election results will be posted on the county elections website.

KUT News follows Austin races

KUT News was monitoring Austin City Council seats, Texas' Congressional District 37 seat, several state representative and school board seats, and Prop I. Prop I would require the city to have an independent audit every five years, a proposal supporters said would force independent scrutiny on how the city spends tax dollars.

Opponents said the city is already required to audit its finances, and they said an independent auditor could gut social programs to save money to meet the city's contractual obligations. The election-night delay meant those races were still waiting on the first totals while early voting results were still being prepared.

Travis County totals and runoff rules

After polls close at 7 p.m., early voting totals come in first, and local and state election authorities continue updating results throughout the night. The county said some races may not be decided until Wednesday morning.

Austin requires candidates to earn more than 50% of the vote to win outright. If no candidate reaches that level, a runoff election is held for the top two candidates with the highest percentage of votes.

For now, the practical step for voters and observers is to wait for the county elections website to begin posting totals as the line of voters clears and the count moves forward.
