Big Cass says Enzo Amore buzz made WWE return harder

Big Cass said Enzo Amore speculation made his WWE return harder than starting with a clean slate. He said the reaction began the moment word leaked that he had signed, and the talk quickly became about a reunion instead of his own reset.

“makes it way more difficult than having a clean slate,” Cass said on The Sal Licata Show. He also said that when news came out of him signing with WWE, it was immediately linked to Enzo Amore, and that a lot of podcasts ran with the idea that they were coming back together.

Cass said some people were surprised when he came back on his own. He added that “it kind of made it a little difficult, but I think so far I’ve done a pretty damn good job in the situation I’m in, getting booed out of buildings, which is really the goal.” That is a different lane than the one fans kept trying to write for him.

The reunion talk has lingered since 2016, when Enzo Amore and Big Cass debuted on Raw after a popular NXT run. They later split, and neither wrestler matched that tag-team momentum as a singles act, which left the old pairing hanging around every time one of them reappeared in the conversation. Crown Jewel tag shift

Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE’s original Crown Jewel plan had Oba Femi teaming with Penta and Je'Von Evans against Bron Breakker, Austin Theory, and Bronson Reed. The match now listed for Saturday has Bron Breakker and Austin Theory defending the tag team titles against Penta and Je'Von Evans, and Meltzer said neither Oba Femi nor Bronson Reed has a scheduled role.

That leaves WWE with a cleaner tag title match and a separate question around the unused names, but the bigger takeaway for Cass is simpler: a return can be crowded out before it even settles in. The rumor mill attached Enzo Amore to his comeback first, and Cass spent the rest of the stretch fighting the expectation instead of the fantasy booking.

Bayley and the younger slot

Meltzer also said Bayley does not appear to be headed to AEW and that WWE is not going to put her in the top four women's spot. He said her slot is to help get younger women over, which sounds less like a headline push than a defined role inside the roster structure. For a four-time women's world champion, that is a narrower lane than the one many would assume.

The useful read here is not that Enzo Amore is coming back; the facts point the other way. Cass already had to answer for the rumor before he could settle into his own return, and WWE’s shifting Crown Jewel layout shows how quickly the company can move pieces around without putting every name back on the board.
