The cinnamon was sold in 3.88-ounce clear plastic containers with black screw-top caps. The recalled bottles carry UPC code 0688474302754 and a best before date of April 25, 2027.

SLR Food Distribution Inc. recall

SLR Food Distribution Inc. is recalling the product after a sample collected and analyzed by The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station showed elevated levels of lead. The cinnamon was distributed between Sept. 8, 2025, and June 28, 2026, to stores in Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Distribution and sale of the cinnamon has stopped, and the FDA said the product will be removed from shelves. The recall reaches household kitchens and retail shelves because the cinnamon was sold as a common ingredient in a package size people typically buy for regular use.

FDA lead warning

No illnesses have been reported from the product. The FDA said, “Short-term exposure to very low levels of lead may not elicit any symptoms. Increased blood lead levels may be the only apparent sign of lead exposure” and “While lead can affect nearly every bodily system, its effects depend upon the amount and duration of exposure, as well as the age and body weight of the individual.”

For consumers who already bought the cinnamon, the immediate step is simple: do not use it. Returning the bottle for a refund is one option; discarding it is the other.

Pennsylvania stores

Pennsylvania is among the 14 states listed in the recall, so shoppers there should check containers against the UPC code and best before date before using any Wise Wife Brand Ground Cinnamon already at home. If the bottle matches, it falls within the recall that began after the lead result from testing and the follow-up removal from shelves.
