UFL Launches 3 Franchises, Shifts to Soccer Stadiums for Season Three

The United Football League (UFL) is making significant changes as it prepares for its third season. The league has introduced three new franchises in Columbus, Ohio; Louisville, Kentucky; and Orlando, Florida. These teams will make their debut next season, marking a fresh direction for the burgeoning league.

New Franchises for UFL

  • Columbus Aviators
  • Louisville Kings
  • Orlando Storm

These teams will take the places of the Memphis Showboats, Michigan Panthers, and San Antonio Brahmas. All franchises will operate in non-NFL markets, a strategic move to cultivate local support.

Strategy to Utilize Soccer Stadiums

The UFL is shifting its focus to soccer specific stadiums. Moving away from large venues like Ford Field and the Alamodome, the league is looking to play in smaller arenas. This transition aims to create a more intimate and engaging environment for fans.

The new teams will perform at the following soccer stadiums:

  • Historic Crew Stadium (Columbus
  • Lynn Family Stadium (Louisville
  • Inter&Co Stadium (Orlando

UFL investor Mike Repole expressed the importance of local support. He noted that a successful local presence can be pivotal for national success. The league’s focus is on fostering community engagement to enhance fan experience.

Plans for Future Growth

In addition to new franchises, the UFL will undergo several significant changes. The Houston Roughnecks will now be known as the Houston Gamblers, returning to their original name from the 1980s USFL era. They will compete at Shell Energy Stadium, home of the Houston Dynamo and Dash.

The Arlington Renegades will also rebrand as the Dallas Renegades, moving to Toyota Stadium, home to MLS’s FC Dallas.

League Format Changes

For the upcoming season, the UFL will eliminate its two-conference structure. Instead, all eight teams will compete collectively, with the top four earning playoff spots. This adjustment is designed to increase interest and engagement among fans in the local markets.

Future Plans and Community Engagement

Repole, who manages business operations for the league, has ambitious plans for growth. He indicated that the UFL expects to add two more teams by 2028. He remains optimistic about the league’s potential, drawing parallels to the development of successful brands like Vitamin Water and BodyArmour.

The announcement concludes weeks of speculation about team relocations and additions. Head coaches for the new franchises will be announced in the coming months. The 2026 season is set to commence on March 27, as the UFL endeavors to establish its lasting presence in the realm of professional spring football.
