Ex-AEW Star Unveils Key Reasons for WWE Switch

In the world of professional wrestling, many athletes aim to work for major promotions like All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). While AEW offers a platform, WWE provides unparalleled global visibility, leading some wrestlers to switch between the companies for greater opportunities.

Recent Transfers from AEW to WWE

This year has seen a notable trend of AEW talent transitioning to WWE. One of the significant signings was Jade Cargill, who joined WWE in 2023 and has quickly risen to prominence on their main roster.

Mariah May, another former AEW star, made headlines recently for opting to sign a multi-year contract with WWE. After competing in AEW from 2023 to 2025, she now performs in NXT under the ring name Blake Monroe, known as “The Glamour.”

Mariah May’s Decision to Join WWE

In a recent episode of the podcast Busted Open, Mariah May shared insights into her decision to leave AEW for WWE. She reflected positively on her time in AEW, stating, “I had a fantastic experience and did things I’m so proud of.” However, she acknowledged that her contract was short and that it was time for a change.

She expressed that while she had a compelling storyline, it may not have been enough to keep her with AEW. “It got to the point where I had an amazing story, but that was the one thing I had,” she explained. May considered branching out into Japan’s wrestling scene but ultimately chose to explore WWE after receiving encouragement from peers to do so.

Factors Influencing Her Move

During her discussions with WWE, May felt a genuine interest from the organization in her character and talents. “When I talked to them and they cared so much about the glamour, I was like, ‘Okay, now I do have a big choice to make,’” she recalled. After much contemplation, she decided to embrace a new chapter in her wrestling career.

Acknowledging WWE’s Women’s Division

May’s decision was also significantly influenced by WWE’s strong focus on women’s wrestling. She expressed admiration for the organization’s efforts to elevate female athletes and noted that this was a crucial factor in her transition.

In terms of future opponents, May mentioned her eagerness to work with NXT talents like Sol Ruca and Tatum Paxley, as well as main roster competitors including Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley.

Achievements in AEW and Future Aspirations

  • Mariah May enjoyed a successful run in AEW, highlighted by her partnership and feud with Toni Storm.
  • She won the 2024 Women’s Owen Hart Cup during her tenure.
  • May also held the AEW Women’s World Championship.

Although she has not yet won any titles in WWE, her potential is evident. Currently, she is embroiled in a significant rivalry against Jordynne Grace and is setting her sights on the NXT Women’s North American Championship.
