Vero Beach Airport Considers Introducing Paid Long-Term Parking

As Vero Beach Regional Airport prepares for increased air traffic, discussions are underway regarding the introduction of paid long-term parking. The airport, which currently serves Breeze Airways, anticipates welcoming two more airlines by early 2026, significantly enhancing its flight operations.

Future of Parking at Vero Beach Regional Airport

Airport officials recognize that accommodating additional travelers will require strategic adjustments to parking infrastructures. Airport Director Todd Scher informed the City Council on October 14 that changes may include implementing a paid parking system.

Current Airlines and Upcoming Additions

Breeze Airways, operating from Vero Beach since 2023, is currently the sole passenger airline. However, this will change on December 11, when JetBlue initiates flights to New York and Boston. Furthermore, American Airlines is set to begin service to Charlotte, North Carolina, starting February 12, 2026.

Parking Improvements

  • The airport plans to create an employee-only parking lot in Lot A, freeing up short-term spaces.
  • This long-term parking lot will include 54 spaces, with one designated for ADA compliance.
  • The changes aim to increase the availability of short-term parking for other airport patrons.

With these modifications, airport officials anticipate that 40 to 45 short-term parking spaces will be freed daily. Scher stated that this initiative adds immediate value for airport businesses, including C.J. Cannon’s Restaurant and Lounge.

Leasing and Paid Long-Term Parking Development

The city is actively exploring leasing airport property to a company that would develop a paid long-term parking area. A presentation is scheduled for October 17, where details about such a proposal will be discussed. Scher acknowledged the importance of balancing profitability for the developer while ensuring a smooth transition from free to paid parking.

As Vero Beach Regional Airport continues to evolve, the introduction of paid long-term parking may be an essential step to accommodate the anticipated growth in air travel and improve overall parking availability.
