Aldershot Town Names John Coleman as New Manager
Aldershot Town has appointed John Coleman as their new manager. The experienced 63-year-old brings nearly three decades of managerial expertise to the club, which competes in the National League. Coleman replaces Tommy Widdrington, who stepped down earlier this month after the team found itself in 19th place, managing only three wins in 14 league matches.
John Coleman’s Managerial Background
John Coleman’s career includes notable stints at clubs like Accrington Stanley, Rochdale, and Gillingham. He famously guided Accrington from non-league football into the English Football League (EFL) in 2006. His leadership resulted in a League Two title achievement for Accrington in 2018 during his second term with the club. Most recently, Coleman managed Waterford in the League of Ireland but departed from that position last month.
Club’s Response to Appointment
The chairman of Aldershot Town, Shahid Azeem, expressed enthusiasm about Coleman joining the team. Azeem stated, “His experience at non-league and above, and what he has given to the game, is nothing short of remarkable.”
Upcoming Matches
- Upcoming Match: Saturday’s trip to Scunthorpe United will be led by interim manager Alan Dowson.
- First Match for Coleman: Coleman’s debut as manager will be the FA Cup first round against Weston-super-Mare next week.
This appointment marks a new chapter for Aldershot Town as they aim to improve their standing in the National League under Coleman’s leadership.
