Jeff Bridges’ WideluxX Prototype Debuts in Stunning Revival

Oscar-winning actor and photographer Jeff Bridges has co-founded a new camera company called SilverBridges. The company aims to revive the Widelux film camera, now branded as the WideluxX. Recently, SilverBridges unveiled its first prototype, the WideluxX Prototype 0001, generating significant excitement within the photography community.

Launch of WideluxX Prototype

The WideluxX prototype was revealed last Friday at the International Association for Panoramic Photography convention held in Minnesota. A video introducing the camera featured Jeff Bridges and his wife, Susan Bridges, as they explained their passion for the project.

A Legacy of Photography

Jeff Bridges has long utilized his personal Widelux camera on various film sets. This camera has provided him with the opportunity to capture unique behind-the-scenes images that hold cultural and artistic importance. However, production of the Widelux cameras ceased two decades ago due to a factory fire, which also impacted the repair of existing models.

Commitment to Craftsmanship

In response to the discontinuation, Jeff and Susan Bridges decided to revive the Widelux camera. “Rather than letting our favorite camera die, we’d bring her back to life,” they stated. The WideluxX is a film camera that is handcrafted in Germany, designed to endure for generations.

Design and Features

The WideluxX Prototype reflects the essence of the original Panon Widelux camera. Team members Charys Schuler and Marwan El Mozayen emphasized their commitment to maintaining the integrity of the original design while implementing minor enhancements. They aim to connect the history and future of analog photography through this revival.

Challenges and Innovations

To create the prototype, the SilverBridges team reverse-engineered the Widelux camera. This process involved manufacturing new versions of all old components, as the original parts are no longer available. Despite these challenges, the prototype demonstrates the team’s potential to deliver a remarkable product.
