Hyderabad Devotees Embrace Chhath Puja’s Conclusion Despite Cloudy Skies

On October 28, 2025, Hyderabad witnessed a vibrant celebration as devotees gathered for the final day of Chhath Puja. The event took place at various water bodies, including the picturesque Hussain Sagar Lake, despite an overcast sky.

Devotion Amidst Cloudy Skies

As early as 4 a.m., devotees flocked to the city’s key Chhath ghats. Many hailed from regions such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. This gathering marked Usha Arghya, the concluding day of the four-day festival dedicated to Surya, the Sun God, and Ushas, his consort.

A Ritual of Gratitude

The Chhath Puja symbolizes gratitude for the sustenance of life on Earth. As devotees stood waist-deep in the water, they waited patiently for the sunrise. Although the cloudy conditions delayed the moment, the atmosphere remained charged with anticipation. When the first rays of the sun broke through, chants of ‘Chhathi Maiya ki Jai’ resonated along the ghats.

Offerings and Traditions

Devotees raised their offerings of fruits and soop in celebration. This sight created a spectacular display of faith and color, showcasing the deep-rooted traditions associated with the festival. After completing the prayer ritual, participants broke their 36-hour fast.

  • Traditional sweet: Thekua (made from wheat flour and jaggery)
  • Fruits and homemade delicacies shared among devotees

This communal sharing marked the end of the Chhath Puja festivities, uniting the community through tradition and spirituality, even under the cloudy skies of Hyderabad.
