Graeme Cremer Rejoins Zimbabwe Cricket After Seven-Year Hiatus

Graeme Cremer is set to make a remarkable return to international cricket after a seven-year break. Zimbabwe Cricket has included the 39-year-old legspinner in the T20I squad for matches against Afghanistan. The series will commence on October 29 with three matches scheduled in Harare.

Cremer’s Journey Back to Cricket

Cremer last played for Zimbabwe in 2018 before stepping away from the sport to pursue golf. During this period, he relocated to the United Arab Emirates, where his wife, Merna, works as an airline pilot. Earlier this year, he returned to Zimbabwe and participated in local club competitions, signaling his intention to regain national selection.

While Cremer missed out on the squad that secured qualification for the upcoming T20 World Cup, selectors have now called him back as the team prepares for this important ICC event.

Zimbabwe’s T20I Squad Details

The announcement was made that Zimbabwe’s selectors have opted to retain the same 15-member squad that went unbeaten in the African Regional Qualifiers. Cremer is the sole change, taking the place of fast bowler Trevor Gwandu. The squad is as follows:

  • Sikandar Raza (captain)
  • Brian Bennett
  • Ryan Burl
  • Graeme Cremer

  • Tadiwanashe Marumani
  • Wellington Masakadza

Notably, Sean Williams will not participate in the series as he addresses personal matters. The matches against Afghanistan will be entirely hosted in Harare, which also staged the previous Test match during the Afghanistan tour.

Match Schedule

The series will unfold as follows:

With Cremer’s return, Zimbabwe fans are hopeful for strong performances in this upcoming series against Afghanistan.
