SBI Life’s Thanks-A-Dot Sets Guinness World Record, Promotes Breast Health Awareness
SBI Life Insurance has recently made headlines by setting a Guinness World Record with its innovative initiative, Thanks-A-Dot. This project is dedicated to raising awareness about breast health among women and promoting early detection.
Record-Breaking Mosaic Highlights Breast Health Awareness
On October 29, 2025, in Mumbai, SBI Life created a stunning mosaic using 1,191 ‘Hug of Life’ hot water bags. This formation spells out the message, “Take A Breast Self-Exam with Thanks-A-Dot.” The record-setting event focused on transforming the dialogue around breast self-examination into a common household discussion.
Emphasizing the Importance of Early Detection
Breast cancer is notably the most prevalent form of cancer among women in India, with nearly one in four women diagnosed with the disease. Alarmingly, over 60% of breast cancer cases are diagnosed at advanced stages, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). By initiating conversations about self-examinations, SBI Life aims to combat cultural stigma and fears surrounding women’s health issues.
The Journey of Thanks-A-Dot
Launched in 2019, the Thanks-A-Dot initiative encourages women to make breast self-examinations a regular practice. The introduction of the ‘Hug of Life’ hot water bag in 2023 marked a significant innovation—a tactile aid designed to help women learn how to perform self-examinations safely.
Support from Notable Figures
Several dignitaries attended the record attempt, including Amit Jhingran, Managing Director and CEO of SBI Life, and Mahima Chaudhry, an Indian actress and breast cancer survivor. Chaudhry emphasized the critical nature of early detection and encouraged women to prioritize their health and engage in self-examinations.
