Cowboys Update: Wilson, Overshown, and Revel Developments

In a recent move, the Cincinnati Bengals traded linebacker Logan Wilson to the Dallas Cowboys ahead of the deadline. The transaction occurred on Tuesday in late October, with Dallas sending a 2026 seventh-round pick in return. The Bengals reportedly received other offers for Wilson but found Dallas’s offer the most appealing.

Logan Wilson’s Journey

Logan Wilson, a third-round draft pick from Wyoming in 2020, became a full-time starter in his second NFL season. Over the past four seasons, he recorded over 100 tackles each year. In August 2023, he signed a four-year contract extension worth $37.25 million. The Cowboys did not request any changes to his existing deal, which runs until 2027. They also agreed to cover his remaining base salary of $2.68 million for the current year.

Current State of the Teams

  • Wilson had started seven of eight games for the Bengals this season, accumulating 40 tackles.
  • Behind Wilson, rookies Barrett Carter and Demetrius Knight have taken over linebacker roles for Cincinnati.
  • The Bengals’ defense currently ranks last in the NFL.
  • The Cowboys, holding a 3-5-1 record, rank second-worst defensively.

The Cowboys are optimistic that recent acquisitions—including Wilson and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams—will strengthen their struggling defense.

In-House Reinforcements

In addition to Wilson, the Cowboys anticipate the return of linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and cornerback Shavon Revel after their bye week. Overshown missed the entirety of the previous season due to a torn ACL. He returned and impressed with 90 tackles, five sacks, and an interception in 2023. Unfortunately, he suffered another severe injury in Week 14, affecting his knee ligaments.

Overshown was placed on injured reserve at the start of 2025 but returned to practice on October 20. Likewise, Revel, who also faced an ACL tear last year, was designated for return on the same day. His NFL career began on the non-football injury list.

Upcoming Returns

As part of their injury management, the Cowboys are also set to welcome back starting safeties Malik Hooker and Donovan Wilson in Week 11. Hooker has been on injured reserve due to a toe injury since Week 4, while Wilson, who leads the team with two interceptions, had missed two games because of an elbow injury.

With these key players returning, Dallas hopes to change the trajectory of their season and improve their overall performance on the field.
