Ovechkin Joins NHL’s Prestigious 900-Goal Club

Alex Ovechkin has etched his name into NHL history by joining the exclusive 900-goal club. The celebrated forward for the Washington Capitals achieved this remarkable milestone on Wednesday night during a game against the St. Louis Blues.

Historic 900th Goal

The significant goal occurred just 2:39 into the second period, when Ovechkin deftly backhanded a rebound from teammate Jakob Chychrun past goaltender Jordan Binnington. The entire Capitals bench erupted in celebration, honoring Ovechkin’s extraordinary achievement at the age of 40.

Toward 1,000 Goals

After surpassing Wayne Gretzky’s career goal record with his 895th goal last April, Ovechkin began the current season needing just three more to reach 900. Following a brief scoring drought over the first four games, he reached this milestone in the second period against St. Louis.

Prior to scoring the 900th, Ovechkin made headlines with goals No. 898 and 899, netting them against Minnesota on October 17 and Columbus a week later, respectively. His teammate, T.J. Oshie, noted Ovechkin’s unwavering ability to defy expectations even as he approaches the end of his contract.
