Honda Recalls 406,000 Vehicles Over Wheel Detachment Risk
Honda has announced a recall of 406,290 vehicles due to a serious manufacturing flaw. This defect poses a risk of wheel detachment, which could increase the likelihood of accidents.
Details of the Recall
The recall specifically affects Honda Civic models from the years 2016 to 2021. A notice issued on November 6 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) details the concern.
Nature of the Defect
Documents reveal that certain accessory aluminum wheels may not possess the correct steel bolt seat. This could lead to lug nuts becoming loose and, subsequently, the potential for the wheel to detach during operation.
Actions to Be Taken
- American Honda anticipates that only a limited number of vehicles will require wheel replacements.
- Honda dealers will inspect the wheels of affected vehicles.
- If needed, dealers will replace hubs and wheels at no expense to the vehicle owners.
Owner Notification
Notification letters are scheduled to be mailed out on December 9. In addition, affected owners are encouraged to contact Honda’s customer service at 1-888-234-2138 for more information.
Recall Information
The recall has been assigned the number MMZ. Vehicle owners are advised to stay informed about the status of their vehicles to ensure safety on the road.
