Commemorating Remembrance Day 2025: Honoring Our Heroes

Residents are invited to participate in traditional Remembrance services across the borough to honor the sacrifices made by past and present armed forces members. Remembrance Sunday is designated for November 9, 2025.

Key Events for Remembrance Day 2025

Three significant events are scheduled for the morning of Remembrance Sunday in Southall, Greenford, and Ealing. Ealing will host the largest observance.

  • Ealing: A parade and ceremony will occur at the Ealing War Memorial, located on Ealing Green, in front of Pitzhanger Manor. Councillor Anthony Kelly, the mayor of Ealing, will attend.
  • Greenford: The local branch of the Royal British Legion will march from its headquarters in Oldfield Lane South to the Greenford War Memorial for a public service.
  • Southall: Attendees will gather at the Southall War Memorial on The Green at 10:45 AM. The Remembrance Service will include a 2-minute silence at 11 AM, followed by a short ceremony at St John’s Church in Church Avenue.

Significance of Remembrance Sunday

Remembrance Sunday serves as a poignant reminder of the values that unify communities: duty, service, and solidarity. Councillor Peter Mason expressed that it encompasses more than just ceremonies and wreaths. It is essential to remember the lessons of history and honor the individuals who served; many families in the borough have relatives who participated in the world wars.

Commemoration of Armistice Day

Armistice Day, observed on November 11, marks the end of World War I in 1918. It is traditionally commemorated with a 2-minute silence at 11 AM on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Remembrance Sunday is held on the nearest Sunday to this significant date.

Support for Veterans

Ealing Council is committed to supporting veterans and those transitioning out of military service. Through the Armed Forces Covenant, the council provides assistance in several key areas, including housing, employment, welfare, education, and healthcare.

As a forces-friendly employer, Ealing Council offers a minimum of five additional days of paid leave annually for reservists to fulfill their training obligations.
