Thatcher Demko to Miss Sunday’s Game Against Visiting Avalanche

Vancouver Canucks’ goaltender Thatcher Demko will miss the game on Sunday against the Colorado Avalanche. Head coach Adam Foote confirmed this decision, replacing Demko with Kevin Lankinen for the starting role.

Thatcher Demko Status Update

Demko, who did not participate in Friday’s practice, skated on Sunday morning. Coach Foote noted that Demko felt good after his session. However, he will not suit up for the matchup against Colorado.

Looking ahead, there is a possibility that Demko could return on Tuesday when the Canucks face the Winnipeg Jets, concluding their four-game homestand.

Recent Performance and Statistics

This season, Demko has played nine games, achieving a record of 5-4-0. His statistics include:

  • Goals Against Average: 2.57
  • Save Percentage: .912

Last year was challenging for Demko as a knee injury limited him to just 23 games. In that season, he posted a record of 10-8-3, including one shutout, with the following stats:

  • Goals Against Average: 2.90
  • Save Percentage: .889

In Demko’s absence, Lankinen steps up after a solid performance in Saturday’s 4-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Jiri Patera, called up from the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks, will act as the backup goaltender for the game against the Avalanche.

Fans will be eager to see if Demko can return to form after missing significant play time last season, strengthening his role in the Canucks’ lineup.
