Icy Snow and Freezing Rain Leave Over 23,000 Homes Without Power

Severe winter weather has left over 54,000 homes in Quebec without power as of Monday evening. A combination of heavy snow and freezing rain has created challenging conditions across the region.

Power Outages Across Quebec

Hydro-Québec reported a total of 54,273 homes without electricity by 9:20 PM. The city of Montreal experienced the most significant outages, affecting 28,383 residences. Other areas impacted include:

  • Montérégie: 10,814 outages
  • Laval: 8,280 outages
  • Lanaudière: 4,430 outages
  • Laurentides: 1,991 outages

Light outages were also noted in Estrie, Chaudière-Appalaches, Mauricie, Bas-Saint-Laurent, and the Côte-Nord, though on a smaller scale.

Weather Conditions and Forecast

In Montreal, Environment Canada forecasts an additional 5 cm of snow overnight. More snowfalls are expected on Tuesday, with an additional 2 cm likely.

Warnings and Advisories

Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for La Tuque, the Laurentides Park, and the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean area. The total expected accumulation is between 15 and 20 cm.

In addition to snow, freezing rain, expected to reach up to 2 mm, may also occur in the Laurentides region. Authorities recommend caution for residents as icy conditions develop.
