MS NOW Secures Partnership with AccuWeather for Enhanced Weather Coverage

AccuWeather has forged a significant partnership with MS NOW, enhancing the network’s weather coverage. This multi-year agreement brings comprehensive weather forecasts, data, and access to expert meteorologists for MS NOW’s audiences.

MS NOW’s Transition and New Branding

As part of a broader corporate restructuring, Comcast will spin off its cable networks into a new entity called Versant by the end of 2025 or early 2026. This process includes the rebranding of MSNBC to MS NOW in mid-November. AccuWeather’s collaboration positions it as the preferred weather source for Versant, which also encompasses CNBC.

Leadership Remarks on the Partnership

Scott Matthews, MS NOW’s senior vice president of newsgathering, expressed pride in expanding the network’s reporting capabilities alongside AccuWeather. He emphasized the network’s commitment to delivering trusted news, especially amidst a surge in severe weather events.

AccuWeather’s CEO, Steven R. Smith, highlighted that the partnership aims to enhance public safety and support informed decision-making during weather emergencies. He noted that AccuWeather’s services, recognized for their accuracy, will reach millions through this collaboration.

New Additions to the MS NOW Team

To bolster its team, MS NOW has appointed David Parkinson as the senior weather and elections data analyst and Moses Small as the climate reporter. Parkinson, an Emmy award-winning professional, joins from CBS News, while Small transitions from KGTV in San Diego. They will work extensively with AccuWeather’s meteorologists to provide detailed weather information across Versant platforms.

Enhanced Viewer Engagement and Content

The agreement includes daily segments on popular programs like “Morning Joe” and “Squawk Box,” focusing on weather forecasts and insights that connect to various topics, including business and lifestyle. This initiative aims to deepen viewer engagement with relevant weather information.

Integrated Services from AccuWeather

AccuWeather will supply an integrated suite of services to MS NOW and CNBC, including:

  • Live and recorded meteorologist appearances
  • Data-driven weather graphics
  • Custom weather briefings
  • Editorial content relevant to current events

Additionally, Versant will gain access to AccuWeather’s Enterprise API and extensive video content library, enhancing its capacity to incorporate detailed weather analyses into its programming.
