Charli XCX Reveals ‘Wuthering Heights’ Album, Drops New Track “Chains of Love”

Charli XCX has officially announced her new album, titled Wuthering Heights. This highly anticipated release is set to drop on February 13 via Atlantic Records. Alongside the announcement, she has unveiled a new track from the album called “Chains of Love.”

Wuthering Heights: A Conceptual Journey

This album marks a significant creative shift for Charli XCX, as its inspiration stems from her collaboration with filmmaker Emerald Fennell. Fennell is known for her adaptation of the classic novel by Emily Brontë. During their discussions, Charli XCX enthusiastically proposed the idea of creating an entire album after Fennell jokingly suggested a song.

In a detailed account on Substack, Charli XCX expressed her desire to explore a multitude of feelings through this project. She aimed to create a world that felt raw, wild, and gothic—elements deeply embedded in British culture. Charli’s intentions were clear: “I wanted to dive into persona,” she stated, emphasizing her commitment to crafting authentic, expressive lyrics without modern distractions.

Collaborations and Influences

Charli XCX worked closely with Finn Keane, also known as Easyfun, for the production of Wuthering Heights. The creative process was heavily influenced by Todd Haynes’ documentary about the Velvet Underground. Charli XCX mentioned a particular quote from John Cale that guided their songwriting, emphasizing the need for their music to be both “elegant and brutal.”

Throughout the year, they collaborated in a studio setting while she was on tour, crafting music that reflects this duality.

Album Details

Wuthering Heights features a total of 12 tracks. The album opens with “House,” a recent collaboration with John Cale, further showcasing the depth of Charli’s creative endeavors.

This upcoming album follows her previous work, including:

  • Brat
  • Brat: Deluxe Edition
  • It’s the Same but There’s Three More Songs So It’s Not
