Trump Urges Justice Department to Probe Epstein’s Ties with Politicians
Former President Donald Trump has called on U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate the connections between Jeffrey Epstein and several prominent Democrats, including Bill Clinton. In a statement shared on his social media platform, Trump highlighted the need for a thorough inquiry into Epstein’s relationships with influential figures and corporations.
Trump’s Call for Investigation
On Friday, Trump expressed his belief that the allegations connecting Epstein to Democrats are being used to divert attention from the party’s failures. He stated, “Now that the Democrats are using the Epstein Hoax to try and deflect from their disastrous SHUTDOWN and all of their other failures, I will be asking A.G. Pam Bondi, and the Department of Justice, together with the FBI, to investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s involvement and relationship with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, J.P. Morgan Chase, and many others.” He characterized the situation as a continuation of political attacks resembling the “Russia, Russia, Russia” claims.
Context of Trump’s Assertions
This request for investigation follows the release of thousands of emails from the Epstein estate by the House Oversight Committee. These emails included references to Trump’s ties to Epstein. Notably, one email mentioned that Trump “knew about the girls,” although it did not suggest any wrongdoing on his part. Another email from Epstein claimed, “I am the one able to take him down,” indicating a complex relationship that took place six months prior to Epstein’s arrest in 2019.
JPMorgan Chase and Epstein
JPMorgan Chase had a banking relationship with Epstein for 15 years. The bank has settled lawsuits with Epstein’s victims and the U.S. Virgin Islands for a total of $365 million—$290 million for the victims and $75 million to the U.S. Virgin Islands. These settlements did not imply an admission of liability. A spokesperson for the bank, Patricia Wexler, stated, “We regret any association we had with the man, but did not help him commit his heinous acts” and noted that their relationship with Epstein ended years before his arrest.
