UNC Secures First 2026 Recruit with Four-Star Adams Signing
Maximo Adams, a top-30 senior basketball player, has committed to the University of North Carolina (UNC), marking a significant milestone as the Tar Heels’ first recruit for the 2026 class. His announcement took place on November 14, 2025, following a recruitment process that attracted attention from several elite programs.
Adams Chooses North Carolina Over Bluebloods
Adams, who stands at 6 feet 7 inches and hails from Sierra Canyon High School in California, expressed his admiration for UNC’s legacy. He stated, “North Carolina basketball is something special. The best player in the history of basketball played here.” His appreciation for the storied history of the program influenced his decision.
Throughout his recruitment, North Carolina was not initially seen as the frontrunner. However, following a visit in late October, the Tar Heels gained momentum and successfully outperformed prestigious rivals like Michigan State, Kentucky, and Texas.
The Importance of Relationships
In his statement, Adams emphasized the significance of his relationships with the coaching staff and players. He noted, “I chose North Carolina because of my relationship with the coaching staff and the players.” His interactions with Head Coach Hubert Davis were particularly impactful. Davis’s consistent communication and support made a lasting impression on Adams.
Impressive Performance Metrics
- Adams averaged 18.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists during the Nike EYBL circuit.
- He recorded three games with 30 or more points, including a standout 38-point game with 17 rebounds against Team Takeover.
- Adams also demonstrated his shooting prowess, with over 39% accuracy from 3-point range.
His performance has earned him recognition as the 26th ranked player in the SC Next 100 list. Adams is celebrated as a versatile forward, capable of scoring from mid-range, finishing at the rim, and making quick, intelligent decisions during gameplay.
Looking Ahead for Carolina
As Adams officially joins UNC’s ranks, he becomes the 12th recruit from the SC Next 100 since the 2022 class. The Tar Heels are also focusing on recruiting additional talent, hosting five-star point guard Dylan Mingo for an official visit soon.
“I’m extremely excited to put on and represent the Carolina blue,” Adams shared, reflecting his enthusiasm for joining the supportive Tar Heel community. His commitment not only strengthens the 2026 class but also reinforces UNC’s ongoing legacy in college basketball.
