Kiss Honors Ace Frehley in First Concert After Guitarist’s Passing
Paul Stanley of KISS paid tribute to the late Ace Frehley during the band’s first concert since the guitarist’s passing. This emotional moment occurred before the KISS Kruise: Landlocked In Vegas show, held at Virgin Hotels. Frehley, a founding member of KISS, died on October 16, 2023, at the age of 74 due to injuries from a fall.
KISS Honors Ace Frehley
Before the show commenced, Stanley addressed the audience, reflecting on Frehley’s vital role in the band’s history. “We just wanted to take a moment to think about somebody who was at the foundation of this band,” he stated. Stanley emphasized the importance of acknowledging their shared history, saying, “We certainly had differences, but that’s what family is about.”
In honor of Ace Frehley, the audience was invited to participate in a moment of silence. Afterward, chants of “Ace! Ace! Ace!” resonated through the crowd, as Stanley encouraged attendees to raise plastic candles in tribute.
A Fond Farewell
Gene Simmons also expressed his sorrow, commenting, “Our hearts are broken. Ace has passed on. No one can touch Ace’s legacy.” He highlighted Frehley’s connection with fans, noting, “I know he loved the fans.” Simmons lamented that Frehley didn’t live to see a tribute at the Kennedy Center Honors event scheduled for December.
KISS Kruise: Landlocked In Vegas
The KISS Kruise: Landlocked In Vegas marks a significant reunion for the band, featuring the final lineup of Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Tommy Thayer, and Eric Singer. Although the band concluded their touring with a farewell show at Madison Square Garden, this event signifies a fresh chapter without the traditional makeup and performances.
Stanley humorously remarked, “Here we are. No ship,” suggesting future cruises for fan engagement. The show kicked off with “Comin’ Home,” a song co-written by Stanley and Frehley, further celebrating the memory of the beloved guitarist.
