Queen Mary 2 Alters Route Due to Propulsion Issue | Cruise News
Cunard Line has announced a propulsion issue affecting the iconic RMS Queen Mary 2 during its current voyage. The vessel, which embarked on a 12-day journey to Norway and the Northern Lights on November 7, 2025, is making operational adjustments while engineers address the problem.
Technical Malfunction Details
One of the ship’s four Mermaid pod propulsion units is not performing as expected. This issue involves a malfunctioning propeller nacelle, which houses and protects the propulsion machinery. Despite the technical difficulties, Cunard assures the ship remains capable of safe navigation.
Itinerary Adjustments
The Queen Mary 2’s itinerary has seen several modifications to maintain schedule stability. Initially delayed due to a technical inspection, the ship was set to call at Hamburg on November 17, but that stop has been canceled.
- Original departure from Southampton: November 7, 2025.
- Canceled port: Hamburg, November 17, 2025.
- Port change: Docking in Bremerhaven instead.
Passenger Arrangements
To facilitate passenger exchanges, shuttle transport will operate between Bremerhaven and Hamburg. Cunard is organizing a new shore excursion program for those affected by the changes. Individual passengers will receive updated information regarding their arrangements.
Future Navigation Plans
Despite the propulsion issue, Queen Mary 2 continues her journey north toward Trondheim. Additional scheduled stops include Tromso and Alesund, adhering to the planned Norwegian voyage.
Cunard remains committed to ensuring the comfort and safety of its guests during this technical disruption, maintaining close communication with those on board.
