Stephen A. Smith Removed from ESPN’s ‘NBA Countdown’ in Surprise Shakeup
ESPN has announced significant changes to the lineup of its renowned pregame show, “NBA Countdown.” Starting November 19, 2025, Stephen A. Smith will not be a part of the new team, surprising many fans and industry insiders.
New NBA Countdown Lineup
The revamped “NBA Countdown” will feature:
- Host: Malika Andrews
- Analysts: Brian Windhorst, Michael Malone, and Kendrick Perkins
- NBA Insider: Shams Charania
This new ensemble is set to provide pregame and halftime coverage on select NBA game nights throughout the season.
Changes in Coverage
These adjustments come in light of ESPN’s efforts to shift their NBA coverage after TNT’s “Inside the NBA” lost its broadcasting rights. This original show, hosted by notable figures such as Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith, and Ernie Johnson, had a significant presence in ESPN’s programming during pivotal game broadcasts.
As of now, Stephen A. Smith has not participated in “NBA Countdown” during the preseason or the regular season. Despite his absence, he remains a prominent figure at ESPN, hosting “First Take” and serving as an executive producer for the show.
Stephen A. Smith’s Current Endeavors
Smith is under a lucrative contract earning $21 million with ESPN. Additionally, he hosts two shows on Sirius XM radio and runs “The Stephen A. Smith Show” on YouTube through his own production company. His response to these changes in his on-air duties has not yet been made public.
