Gary Sinise Foundation and NWFA Complete 81st Home Build

The National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) recently marked a significant milestone by completing its 81st home build in collaboration with the Gary Sinise Foundation’s R.I.S.E. program. This initiative focuses on creating custom, mortgage-free homes for severely injured veterans and first responders.

Dedication of New Home for Veteran

The dedication ceremony for the latest home took place on June 12 in Bellevue, Idaho. Retired U.S. Army Sergeant Matthew Krumwiede received the keys to his new residence during an emotional event attended by supporters and community members.

Sergeant Krumwiede, who enlisted in the Army after high school, sustained severe injuries while serving in Afghanistan. During a patrol in Kandahar province, he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED), which led to the loss of both legs. Following the incident, he underwent nearly 50 surgeries and spent almost a year in various medical facilities.

Support from the NWFA and Partners

Flooring for Sergeant Krumwiede’s home was generously donated by NWFA member Metropolitan Hardwood Floors. NWFA CEO Stephanie Owen highlighted the importance of this partnership, stating, “His new home will eliminate many daily challenges and serve as an enduring reminder of our gratitude for his service.”

Ongoing Contributions and Future Projects

The NWFA is not stopping at the 81 completed homes. Currently, the association is collaborating with its members to supply flooring for 18 additional R.I.S.E. homes, which are in various phases of planning and construction.

  • 161 NWFA member companies have contributed to the cause.
  • The total value of contributions exceeds $7 million.
  • Contributions include products, logistics, and installation services.
