Flyers Trade Jett Luchanko in OHL Blockbuster Deal
The Brantford Bulldogs are setting their sights on the OHL championship after making a significant trade. They acquired top Philadelphia Flyers prospect Jett Luchanko from the Guelph Storm in a major deal announced on Monday.
Details of the Trade
As part of the transaction, Guelph received forward Layne Gallacher along with four draft selections in exchange for Luchanko. The draft picks include:
- 2027 second-round pick (via Kitchener)
- 2028 second-round pick (via Sudbury)
- 2029 third-round pick
- 2029 fifth-round pick (via Brampton)
About Jett Luchanko
Luchanko, a 19-year-old center from London, Ontario, was selected 13th overall by the Flyers in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft. This season, he has recorded 15 assists and a total of 17 points in just 11 games with the Storm. His exceptional speed and playmaking abilities immediately enhance the Bulldogs’ lineup.
Bulldogs general manager Spencer Hyman expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “We are incredibly excited to acquire Jett Luchanko. He is a player who immediately makes our hockey club better.”
Luchanko’s Background and Expectations
Despite playing four games in each of the last two seasons for the Flyers, Luchanko has yet to register a point in the NHL. He has represented Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championship and is anticipated to play a vital role in the upcoming tournament next month.
This trade marks the Bulldogs’ second significant move this season. Earlier, they secured Toronto Maple Leafs first-round pick Ben Danford and veteran defenceman Zackary Sandhu from the Oshawa Generals in exchange for three players and nine draft picks.
Bulldogs’ Current Standing
Currently, the Brantford Bulldogs lead the OHL with an impressive record of 18 wins, no losses, four overtime losses, and one shootout loss. Their roster includes several NHL first-round picks, such as Jake O’Brien (Seattle Kraken), Adam Jiricek (St. Louis Blues), and Marek Vanacker (Chicago Blackhawks).
