LSU’s Kiffin Appoints Weis Jr. to Lead Ole Miss in CFP

LSU’s Lane Kiffin has appointed Charlie Weis Jr. as the offensive coordinator for Ole Miss during the College Football Playoff (CFP). This decision allows Weis to return to the Rebels, where he served under Kiffin since 2022.

Weis to Significantly Impact Ole Miss’ Playoff Journey

Weis will collaborate with new Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding and the existing coaching staff throughout the CFP. Ole Miss concluded its regular season with an impressive 11-1 record and secured the No. 7 spot in the most recent CFP rankings.

Kiffin’s Statement on Weis’ Return

In a statement, Kiffin expressed, “After conversations with LSU, we are allowing Charlie to return to Ole Miss to coach the team during the playoffs.” He hopes this decision will enhance Ole Miss’ ranking in the upcoming CFP announcements.

Coaching Changes and Contracts

  • Kiffin tried to retain his head coaching role at Ole Miss after moving to LSU but was informed that it was not possible.
  • Golding has been appointed as the permanent head coach of Ole Miss.
  • Weis has signed a three-year contract with LSU, valued at approximately $6 million.

Several other Ole Miss assistants, including Joe Cox, have also joined Kiffin at LSU. However, Weis is the only one returning to aid Ole Miss during the critical playoff period.

Weis’ Previous Experience

Before joining Ole Miss, Weis worked alongside Kiffin at Florida Atlantic, where he served as the offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2019. His return marks a strategic move that may benefit Ole Miss significantly in their playoff campaign.
