Live: Kremlin Reports No Compromise Solution on Russian-Occupied Ukrainian Territories

A new counter-drone police unit has officially commenced operations in Germany. This initiative is a response to the rising threats posed by drone incursions on strategic sites across the country.

Launch of Counter-Drone Police Unit

The unit was inaugurated on Tuesday in Ahrensfelde, located in the northeastern suburb of Berlin. Germany’s Interior Minister, Alexander Dobrindt, attended the ceremony and confirmed that the unit will eventually comprise over 130 personnel. Their mission is to provide rapid response capabilities nationwide.

Support For Airports and Defense Equipment

To further bolster security, German airports will soon receive advanced counter-drone technology. Operators and regional administrations are collaborating to equip these facilities. The implemented measures include:

  • Signal jamming techniques to disrupt control mechanisms.
  • Detection technologies to identify unauthorized drones.
  • Interceptor drones designed to neutralize threats.

Official Statements and Legislative Actions

Minister Dobrindt emphasized the importance of these actions, stating, “We cannot accept that the hybrid threat posed by drones remains a danger to our security and continues to escalate.” The German police already have the authority to shoot down drones when necessary. Furthermore, new legislation is underway to enable military involvement in addressing drone incursions within national airspace.

Upcoming National Coordination Center

A national counter-drone defense center is set to be established soon. This facility aims to enhance coordination among various security services, improving the overall response to drone-related incidents.

Current Drone Threat Landscape

In recent months, drone sightings have increased significantly around airports and sensitive sites, including military facilities, throughout Europe. There are growing suspicions that these incursions are linked to activities originating from Moscow.
