Chris Paul Reacts to Unexpected Trade: “I’m Being Sent Home”
Chris Paul, a 40-year-old NBA veteran, recently addressed his unexpected departure from the Los Angeles Clippers on social media. In an Instagram story posted around 3:00 AM local time on Wednesday, he stated, “Just found out I’m being sent home,” accompanied by a peace emoji. This announcement coincided with the Clippers’ confirmation of his exit from the team.
Chris Paul’s Departure from the Clippers
Lawrence Frank, the Clippers’ president of basketball operations, issued a statement regarding Paul’s exit. He emphasized Paul’s legacy with the team and acknowledged the franchise’s struggles this season. Frank stated, “Chris is a legendary Clipper who has had a historic career. I want to make one thing very clear. No one is blaming Chris for our underperformance. I accept responsibility for the record we have right now.”
Performance Struggles
This season, Paul has struggled on the court, averaging just 2.9 points, 3.3 assists, 1.8 rebounds, and 0.7 steals in 16 games. The Clippers are currently 14th in the Western Conference with a disappointing 5-16 record under coach Tyronn Lue.
Chris Paul’s Historic Career
Despite his recent struggles, Chris Paul is poised for a Hall of Fame induction. He has participated in 1,519 NBA games, including 149 playoff appearances. Throughout his career, Paul has been selected to 12 NBA All-Star Teams and received the NBA Rookie of the Year award in 2006.
- Drafted 4th overall by the New Orleans Hornets in 2005
- Played for teams including the Spurs, Warriors, Suns, Thunder, and Rockets
- Collected two Olympic gold medals in 2008 and 2012, along with a bronze in 2006
Initially, Paul intended to retire after the 2025-26 season, reaffirming this goal recently. However, his time with the Clippers has ended earlier than expected amid the team’s continued challenges this season.
