Festive Christmas Music and Events Fill the Week

December is rich with festive music and events, making it an exciting month for families and communities. This weekend, two significant holiday events will occur, promising a blend of musical enjoyment and participation.

Festive Christmas Music Events

The University of Jamestown is set to host its annual Christmas Concert this Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. each day. Held in the DeNault Auditorium of the Reiland Fine Arts Center, the concert will feature a variety of musical selections ranging from classical to contemporary. UJ’s talented music students, under the guidance of their choir and band leaders, will showcase their skills to the audience.

Christmas Sing-Along at Stutsman County Courthouse

On Sunday, December 10, from 2-4 p.m., the historic Stutsman County Courthouse in Jamestown will hold a Christmas Sing-Along. Local musicians will lead attendees in singing traditional holiday songs. Families are encouraged to bring children, as a special guest will be available to listen to their Christmas wishes. This delightful event will also offer refreshments and guided tours, with free entry for all.

Upcoming Courthouse Events

The following Saturday, December 13, the courthouse will feature a Christmas tree display from 3-5 p.m. Decorators Jennine Albrecht and Sheila Harr will provide insights into their decorations and offer historical context. This gathering will also include complimentary refreshments.

Progress and Improvements

Significant improvements have taken place at the 142-year-old Stutsman County Courthouse. Recently, the installation of an elevator has made the second floor accessible to individuals who had difficulty with stairs. This project was made possible through state funding, thanks to local legislators advocating for the necessary accessibility.

During the recent Christmas Sing-Along, many residents who had long wished to see the courtroom were finally able to do so. Antique dealer and rancher George Spangler attended, eager to view the restorations. Sadly, he passed away shortly after, but not before making a generous bequest of over $5 million aimed at preserving the courthouse.

Ongoing Developments

Spangler’s donation will fund updates, including a new heating and air conditioning system to enhance the experience for future generations. This December, guests will also have the chance to visit a new gift shop featuring unique courthouse-related items, perfect for history enthusiasts.

Beginning in January, HVAC crews will start working on further renovations to improve the building’s climate control and possibly repair the clock tower. Barb Lang, president of the 1883 committee, stated that the clock tower will be open for tours by next summer, allowing visitors to appreciate the historic district from above.

Both December events at the courthouse are free and suitable for all ages, inviting the community to celebrate the holiday spirit together. The Stutsman County Courthouse is located at 504 Third Ave. SE, in Jamestown, ND, and remains committed to being a cherished venue for festivities and historical appreciation.
