Rogers previously served as head coach at Washington State University, where he achieved a 6-6 record in his first season. He is one of only four coaches in the history of Washington State to lead the team to a bowl game in their inaugural season.

Under his leadership, the Jackrabbits won the 2023 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) national championship and reached the semifinals in 2024, finishing both seasons with impressive records: 15-0 in 2023 and 12-3 in 2024.
