UNLV Quarterback Earns MW Offensive Player of the Year Title
UNLV junior quarterback Anthony Colandrea has been recognized as the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year following a successful season. This honor, announced by media and league coaches, highlights Colandrea’s impressive achievements on the field.
Colandrea’s Remarkable Season
Colandrea completed 238 of 349 passes, totaling a league-high 3,050 yards. He also led the conference with 22 touchdown passes. Additionally, he recorded a career-best 555 rushing yards and crossed the end zone eight times.
His completion percentage of 68.2% is on track to break school records. Moreover, Colandrea has excelled in total offense, averaging 300.4 yards per game and maintaining a pass efficiency rating of 157.8. Notably, he is the only player in the nation to pass for at least one touchdown and rush for a minimum of 15 yards in every game this season.
Historic Achievement
This recognition marks the first time since 1983 that a UNLV quarterback has earned this title, a distinction previously held by College Football Hall of Famer Randall Cunningham.
Team Contributions
Colandrea credits his success to his teammates. “You win individual awards off your teammates, off their success,” he stated. His dedication and hard work have been acknowledged by offensive coordinator Corey Dennis, who emphasized Colandrea’s passion for the game.
Support from Teammates
- Junior running back Jai’Den “Jet” Thomas was also recognized as a first-team all-conference selection.
- Thomas leads college football in yards per carry at 7.43.
- He is the only player nationwide with four 100-yard rushing games on fewer than 15 carries.
- Four other Rebels received second-team all-conference honors: linebacker Marsel McDuffie, defensive back Aamaris Brown, wide receiver Jaden Bradley, and center Reid Williams.
Looking Ahead
The UNLV Rebels are preparing to face Boise State in the conference championship game this Friday. With this recognition of offensive talent, the team aims to build on their success this season.
