Taylor’s Silent Night Show: Costumes Ignite Chaotic Spectacle
The annual “Silent Night” basketball game at Taylor University captivated fans once again this December. This unique college tradition blends athletic excitement with festive celebration. Spectators maintain silence until the Trojans score their tenth point, then erupt in joy.
Silent Night Game Highlights
On the first Friday night of December, students began lining up days in advance for this much-anticipated event. Carson Gould made the crucial assist to Pete Combs, who delivered the glorious dunk, marking the moment when fans erupted into cheers.
Tradition and Atmosphere
- Fans stay silent until the 10th point.
- Special performances include singing “Silent Night” at two minutes left in the game.
- Costumes play a central role, with attendees dressing as various characters.
This year, costumes included a group as the Lorax, women adorned with disco balls, and classic Santas. Last year’s popular choice, Caitlin Clark, was also spotted among the crowd.
The Game Experience
This year’s matchup featured the Taylor Trojans against Moody Bible Institute. The Trojans showcased dominance on the court, securing a decisive 118-33 victory. They limited their opponents to only 11 points in the second half.
- Izaiah Day led the scoring with 19 points.
- Two players from Fishers contributed 13 points each.
- Kaleb Edwards recorded eight rebounds.
- Freshman Nathan Baker gathered 11 rebounds.

Season Outlook
Currently, the Trojans hold a 7-3 record in the NAIA. Earlier this season, they triumphed over archrival Indiana Wesleyan, ranked No. 1 nationally at the time, in a close game that ended 80-77.
The “Silent Night” celebration, now in its 28th year, exemplifies why basketball in Indiana holds a distinct charm. This event not only highlights the university’s athletic prowess but also fosters community spirit and vibrant traditions.
