The sudden death of a 19-year-old man in northeast Edmonton has prompted a homicide investigation by the Edmonton Police Service (EPS). The incident occurred early on Monday morning at an apartment complex in the Parkdale neighbourhood.

Northeast Edmonton Stabbing Details

Officers responded to a 911 call around 2 a.m. on Monday, which reported a stabbing at the Fernwood Apartments, located near 80 Street and 117 Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered the young man in critical condition. Despite providing first aid until emergency medical services (EMS) arrived, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Resident’s Account

Casey Warford, a resident of the building, shared recent experiences of disturbances leading up to the incident. He noted hearing loud banging noises and yelling from an upstairs unit over the weekend. Concerned, Warford had even knocked on the door of the neighbor’s apartment but received no response.

The following morning, after the police arrived to inquire about the incident, Warford expressed shock at the victim’s death, describing him as friendly and indicating that he had only lived at the Fernwood Apartments for a few months. On Monday afternoon, visible blood was noted on the back door of the complex.

Investigation and Arrest

  • Police arrested a 21-year-old man shortly after the victim’s death.
  • The suspect and the victim reportedly knew each other, though details remain unclear.
  • An autopsy is scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

The homicide unit is leading the investigation and has requested residents in the Parkdale area to check their properties for any suspicious items. Police urged anyone finding anything unusual not to touch it and to contact authorities immediately.
