Powerball Jackpot Approaches $1 Billion, Year’s Second Largest Prize

The Powerball jackpot has surged to an estimated $930 million, marking it as the second-largest prize of 2025. This significant figure is highlighted by the Multi-State Lottery Association in their latest announcement.

Powerball Jackpot Overview

Since reaching a monumental $1.787 billion in September, which is the second largest prize in Powerball history, the jackpot has consistently increased. Should a lucky player win this upcoming draw, they will have two choices for claiming their prize.

Payout Options

  • Lump Sum: Approximately $429 million after taxes.
  • Annuity: The full $930 million divided into 30 yearly payments before taxes.

The winning chances remain steep, with odds of about 1 in 292.2 million for the jackpot. However, participants have better odds of winning smaller prizes, which range from $4 to $1 million.

Recent Jackpot Wins

The last major jackpot in September was won by ticket holders in Texas and Missouri, who shared the enormous $1.787 billion prize. Ticket purchases are available to customers in nearly every state, including Washington, DC, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands, with the cost per ticket at $2.

However, five states—Alabama, Utah, Alaska, Hawaii, and Nevada—do not participate in the lottery. This exclusion is attributed to various factors such as lobbying efforts and lack of incentives.

Draw Schedule

Powerball drawings take place three times a week: every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 PM ET. As the jackpot approaches $1 billion, excitement continues to build among participants across the nation.
