Kron Gracie Withdraws from New York Fight Due to Medical Disapproval
Kron Gracie’s return to mixed martial arts (MMA) will take longer than anticipated due to a lack of medical clearance. The New York State Athletic Commission prohibited Gracie from participating in his scheduled fight against Tom Picciano at the Victory Fighting League event.
Kron Gracie Withdraws from Fight
This unexpected withdrawal was announced on Wednesday by the promotion following the commission’s decision. Gracie was set to compete in a featherweight title match at Terminal 5 in New York City on Friday.
Dan Anderson, CEO of Victory Fighting League, expressed regret over the situation. He acknowledged the disruption caused by Gracie’s medical disapproval and communicated appreciation for the fans’ understanding during this challenging time. Anderson stated, “We anticipate resolving this matter promptly and having Kron reappear to fight in the new year.”
Medical Challenges and Social Media Response
The specifics regarding the medical disapproval remain unclear. However, Gracie took to social media to express his readiness and frustration. He claimed to be fit to fight, stating, “I’m cleared to fight with all my doctors.” He criticized the commission’s processes, adding, “NYSAC has been very difficult in many ways!”
Gracie confirmed his disappointment over the withdrawal, especially after dedicating five months to training and incurring significant expenses for his fight camp. He emphasized his eagerness to compete and gratitude toward his supporters.
A Change in Fight Card
Gracie’s withdrawal has led to adjustments in the event’s lineup. The initial co-main event featuring UFC veteran T.J. Brown and Dylan Mantello will now headline the card. Additionally, a bantamweight match between former UFC fighter Daniel Lacerda and Ashiek Ajim has been elevated to the co-main event status.
