Snowy Morning Commute: First Alert Weather Update
The Tri-State region is bracing for a snowy weekend as the first of two clipper systems has moved in, potentially bringing up to 6 inches of snow through Sunday. This period, from Friday to Sunday morning, has been designated as First Alert Weather Days by El-Balad.
Current Weather Conditions
As of early Friday, roads are wet with light snow falling. Motorists should be cautious of slick spots, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads.
Traffic Disruptions
A three-vehicle accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on southbound Interstate 75 at Ezzard Charles Drive, briefly closing the road for an hour. The road reopened temporarily for tow trucks before fully closing again.
Weather Advisories and Warnings
- A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for southwestern Ohio and southeastern Indiana until 10 a.m. Friday.
- Most northern Kentucky counties are under a Winter Storm Warning until 10 a.m. Friday.
Forecast for Friday
Snow is expected to continue throughout Friday’s morning commute, with Northern Kentucky likely to see more accumulation compared to northern Cincinnati suburbs. Temperatures will start in the 20s and rise to around 36 degrees by Friday afternoon, followed by a drop into the teens overnight.
Weekend Weather Outlook
The next weather system will arrive Saturday morning and is expected to bring an additional 3 to 5 inches of snow from Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning. This round of snow will impact different areas than Friday’s snow.
Travel Impacts
Expect deteriorating road conditions Saturday afternoon and evening, which may disrupt travel plans. Snow will start to taper off early Sunday, but a bitter cold front will follow, with low temperatures dropping to single digits and wind chills below zero.
Next Week’s Forecast
The Tri-State area will remain colder than normal next week. Monday morning’s low could reach around 1 degree Fahrenheit, with daytime highs only reaching the low 20s. By Tuesday, temperatures are expected to rise above freezing, with lows in the teens and highs in the mid-30s. The week will continue with highs in the low-to-mid-40s by Wednesday, along with a chance of rain.
As residents prepare for snowy commutes and cold temperatures, they should stay informed through El-Balad’s updates. Make sure to bundle up if attending the Bengals game this weekend!
