“Brain Hemorrhage Claims Gonda BLO’s Life; Family Cites Work Pressure”

A tragic incident in Gonda district has drawn attention to workplace pressures facing government employees. A Booth Level Officer (BLO), identified as Nanbachcha, recently died after suffering from a brain hemorrhage. His family claims that the excessive work pressure contributed significantly to his condition.

Details of the Incident

Nanbachcha, aged 57, was assigned to booth number 336 in the Katra Bazar assembly constituency. He passed away on the night of December 11, after spending nine days undergoing treatment at the KGMU Trauma Centre in Lucknow. His family reported that he had been battling a brain hemorrhage.

Background and Health Issues

Originating from Bangai village in the Rupai Deeh development block, Nanbachcha was also a dedicated ‘shiksha mitra’ at a nearby educational institution. Family members allege that unrelenting pressure from the block education officer to finalize duties related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls significantly impacted his health.

  • Health decline reported on December 6.
  • Rushed to a private hospital in Gonda, then referred to Lucknow.
  • Complications arose despite nine days on ventilator support.

Krishna Devi, his wife, indicated that his health worsened after being reprimanded by the block education officer the day prior. This incident appears to have exacerbated his existing condition, which included high blood pressure. His family believes that work overload impeded his ability to adhere to his prescribed medication, adding to his distress.

Community Response

Following his death, Nanbachcha’s body was returned to Bangai village for final rites, attended by colleagues and officials. The district’s basic shiksha adhikari, alongside several teachers and fellow ‘shiksha mitras’, paid their respects. The community rallied to raise nearly ₹5 lakh to help cover his medical expenses, marking a poignant demonstration of solidarity.

Call for Accountability

Uttar Pradesh Primary Teachers’ Association district president Avadhesh Mani Mishra has called for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Nanbachcha’s death. He demands accountability for individuals who contributed to the pressures faced by the officer, along with governmental support for the grieving family.

In contrast, District Basic Shiksha Adhikari Amit Kumar Singh has dismissed the allegations against the block education officer as unfounded. The incident has sparked discussions on the mental health and well-being of public servants in demanding roles.

This tragic case highlights the pressing need for a review of employee support systems within government departments, especially concerning work-related stress that can lead to dire health consequences.
