Hochul Extends Emergency Declaration Statewide Ahead of Major New York Snowstorm
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has expanded her emergency declaration statewide ahead of a major snowstorm. The declaration now covers all 62 counties as the state prepares for a significant lake effect storm.
Snowstorm Forecast and Emergency Measures
The National Weather Service predicts that certain areas may see snowfall amounts reaching up to three feet. Intense conditions are expected to begin on Monday night, with snowfall rates possibly reaching 2 to 3 inches per hour.
Continuing State of Emergency
The extended emergency order builds on a previous declaration initiated during a snowstorm last Friday. This decision empowers Governor Hochul to suspend state contracting rules and lift driving restrictions for commercial truck drivers.
- Travel Advisory: Local officials have issued advisories to residents. Madison County has urged local drivers to avoid non-essential travel from 10 p.m. Monday until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
- Onondaga County: Executive Ryan McMahon plans to release a travel advisory later on Monday.
Expected Conditions
The winter storm warning is set to remain in effect until 7 a.m. Wednesday. Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions as the storm approaches.
