CENTCOM Eliminates ISIS Operatives in Syria Following Major Strike
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has recently intensified operations against ISIS in Syria, following a significant strike on December 19. This action, dubbed Operation Hawkeye Strike, involved U.S. and Jordanian forces targeting over 70 locations. The operation employed more than 100 precision munitions, significantly degrading ISIS infrastructure and capabilities.
Major Developments in ISIS Operations
Following the December 19 strike, U.S. and coalition forces reported the elimination or capture of nearly 25 ISIS operatives from December 20 to 29. During this period, 11 separate missions were executed, resulting in the death of at least seven ISIS members, with the remainder captured. Additionally, four weapons caches belonging to ISIS were destroyed.
Context and Significance
The uptick in military operations correlates with a troubling trend observed in 2025, where ISIS inspired at least 11 plots or attacks targeting the United States. In the preceding year, U.S. forces alongside international partners captured over 300 terrorists and killed more than 20 members of the group. These statistics highlight the ongoing threat posed by ISIS and the commitment from U.S. military forces to confront it aggressively.
Statements from Military Leadership
- “We will not relent,” said Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM.
- Cooper emphasized the dedication to partner with regional allies to eliminate the ISIS threat to both U.S. and regional security.
- He added, “Continuing to hunt down terrorist operatives and eliminate ISIS networks makes America, the region, and the world safer.”
This recent emphasis on counter-terrorism illustrates the strategic priorities set by U.S. defense leadership, aiming to prevent any resurgence of ISIS forces in the region.
