New Year’s Day in New Brunswick will be marked by numerous closures, impacting stores, offices, and public services across the province. On Thursday, January 1, many facilities will cease operations, with regular schedules resuming on Friday, January 2.

What’s Open and Closed on New Year’s Day

Retail and Grocery Stores

  • Most grocery stores, including Sobeys, Real Atlantic Superstore, and Walmart, will be closed.
  • Shoppers Drug Mart locations may operate until 5 p.m. or 6 p.m., varying by store.
  • Victory Meat Market locations in downtown Fredericton and Lincoln Road will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Costco stores in Fredericton, Saint John, and Moncton, including their gas bars, will be closed.

Liquor and Cannabis Stores

  • N.B. Liquor and Cannabis N.B. locations will remain closed on January 1.

Shopping Malls

  • Regent Mall in Fredericton, McAllister Place in Saint John, and Champlain Place in Dieppe will be closed.
  • Saint John City Market will also be closed on New Year’s Day.

Tourism and Attractions

  • Beaverbrook Art Gallery and Fredericton Region Museum will be closed.
