AMC Entertainment Holdings (AMC) Sees Market Shift
AMC Entertainment Holdings, the world’s largest theatrical exhibitor, is experiencing a notable shift in the market due to strategic collaborations with Netflix. Adam Aron, AMC’s Chairman and CEO, recently shared insights on these developments.
AMC and Netflix Collaboration
In September 2025, AMC and Netflix began a high-level dialogue, pledging to explore cooperative efforts. This dialogue quickly resulted in AMC screening Netflix’s popular K-Drama, “KPop Demon Hunters.” This event drew significant attendance, with AMC reporting more than 35% of total viewers during the holiday weekend.
Success of “Stranger Things” Theatrical Event
The partnership continued with a multi-hour screening of the series finale of “Stranger Things” during New Year’s Eve and Day at 231 AMC theatres across the United States. This unprecedented event attracted over 753,000 fans within two days.
- AMC showcased approximately one-third of all theatres screening “Stranger Things.”
- Estimated that more than half of cinema-goers saw “Stranger Things” at an AMC location.
Consumer demand led AMC to increase showtimes, offering more than nine times the originally planned seating capacity for the series finale. While attendance was free, guests were required to purchase a $20 food and beverage credit, resulting in over $15 million in earnings from this event alone.
Future of AMC and Netflix Partnership
AMC is optimistic about further collaborations with Netflix. Aron emphasized the seamless and creative working relationship established through these recent projects. Both companies are already discussing additional programming for theatrical releases in 2026 and beyond.
Mutual Audience Engagement
There is a significant overlap between AMC’s customers and Netflix subscribers. Approximately two-thirds of AMC Stubs loyalty program members also subscribe to Netflix, indicating a strong market for joint ventures. AMC aims to leverage this shared audience to create mutually beneficial opportunities in the future.
