Red Panda Eliminated in 2026 Masked Singer Premiere: Here’s Why
The 2026 premiere of The Masked Singer underwent significant adjustments following recent tragic events in Switzerland. A contestant known as Red Panda had their performance removed due to concerns about potential insensitivities linked to a devastating fire that occurred during New Year’s celebrations.
Tragic Fire in Switzerland
The fire claimed the lives of at least 40 individuals and left 119 others injured. This incident took place at the Le Constellation bar in the ski resort of Crans-Montana. Currently, authorities are still in the process of identifying victims, with 24 individuals officially named thus far. Among those affected are teenagers and citizens from several countries, including:
- Switzerland
- Italy
- Romania
- Turkey
- France
Red Panda’s Performance Removal
The contestant originally planned to perform the iconic 1976 song “Disco Inferno” by The Trammps. Yet, ITV executives opted not to air the segment amidst heightened sensitivity to the fire’s aftermath. As a result, roughly ten minutes of programming were cut, which included Red Panda’s introduction, performance, and judges’ commentary.
An ITV spokesperson emphasized the decision’s basis, stating: “In light of the tragic events in Switzerland, we took the decision to remove Red Panda’s performance on The Masked Singer in tonight’s programme owing to potential insensitivities within the theme and lyrics of the song.”
Future of Red Panda on The Masked Singer
Fans of The Masked Singer can expect Red Panda’s return. The network confirmed that this contestant has not been permanently eliminated from the competition. Viewers will have the opportunity to see Red Panda perform in future episodes of the series.
The Masked Singer airs on Saturdays on ITV1 and ITVX, promising an array of entertainment in the weeks to come.
