Faye Greenwood, a 24-year-old influencer from Lewes, has shared her powerful journey after experiencing a heart attack during a holiday in Paris. This life-altering event occurred in July while she was with her fiancé, Ailbhe Lower, who is also a prominent influencer.

Heart Attack at a Young Age

Ms. Greenwood expressed shock at her sudden health crisis, stating, “I couldn’t believe that something that serious would be happening.” Initially dismissing her symptoms, she experienced severe chest pains and vomiting, feelings she described as “a sense of doom.”

Delayed Medical Attention

The couple faced significant challenges during this ordeal. Due to language barriers and misinterpretations of her symptoms, Ms. Greenwood waited six and a half hours before receiving medical care. After returning to the UK, she learned that despite her prior diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy, doctors were uncertain about the cause of her heart attack.

Heart Transplant Journey

Upon learning that she might face a year-long wait for a heart transplant, Ms. Greenwood was fortunate to find a donor and received a new heart within four months. “It’s just something you never really think that you’re going to have to deal with,” she remarked.

Medical Costs and Financial Impact

The financial burden of her medical treatment was daunting, with an estimated £14,000 hospital bill from France and an additional £40,000 for her air ambulance return to the UK. This unexpected expenditure disrupted their plans, as the couple was just beginning to stabilize their lives.

Impact on Career and Health Awareness

Known for her fashion and lifestyle content, Greenwood now faces uncertainty regarding her future in the influencer industry due to visible scarring from the surgery. She emphasizes the need for awareness of heart health, especially among younger individuals. “If you think anything could be wrong, even a very small thing, just definitely get it checked out,” she advised.

Encouragement to Others

  • Do not ignore symptoms, regardless of age.
  • Act quickly if any concerning health issues arise.
  • Seek medical attention even when symptoms seem minor.

Mr. Lower echoed this sentiment, urging others not to assume that heart issues only affect older adults. Together, they advocate for greater recognition and response to heart health concerns in the young population.
