Quinn Appointed as Liberty’s Defensive Coordinator

Shawn Quinn has been appointed as Liberty University’s new Defensive Coordinator and Outside Linebackers Coach. His extensive coaching tenure spans nearly three decades and includes significant experience at various institutions.

Coaching Experience

Before joining Liberty, Quinn spent four seasons at Virginia Tech, focusing on the SAM linebacker and Nickels positions. He has held the Defensive Coordinator role at multiple schools, including:

• Savannah State (2018-2021)
• Tennessee Tech (2016)
• Western Carolina (2013-2015)
• Charleston Southern (2012)
• Northwestern State (2009)

At Savannah State, Quinn not only served as head coach but also achieved a record of 16-6, including an 8-2 season in 2021. His leadership helped the team transition successfully from FCS to NCAA Division II.

Notable Achievements

During his time at Virginia Tech, Quinn mentored Star linebacker Keonta Jenkins, who recorded 65 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles in 2024. This performance led Jenkins to sign with the Buffalo Bills in 2025.

Under Quinn’s guidance, Savannah State finished the 2021 season ranked No. 8 in the nation for total defense, allowing just 249.8 yards per game. In addition, he coached 15 all-conference players and earned recognition as the 2019 Black College Sports Network Coach of the Year.
