Celtic Dismiss Manager Nancy After Just Eight Matches
Celtic Football Club has officially dismissed manager Wilfried Nancy following a disappointing run of results. The decision comes after Nancy’s team suffered a 3-1 loss to Rangers, marking their sixth defeat in only eight matches this season.
Celtic’s Performance Under Nancy
Wilfried Nancy, aged 48, signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Celtic after managing Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer. He took over the managerial role on December 4. Under his leadership, the team’s performance drastically declined compared to the previous interim manager, Martin O’Neill, who led the club to seven victories in their last eight matches.
Record of Losses
Under Nancy’s management, the club faced several challenges, including:
- Loss of first two games in charge.
- Defeat in the Premier Sports Cup final against St. Mirren.
- Subsequent losses to Dundee United and Motherwell.
This string of results marked the worst run for Celtic since 1978, when they suffered four consecutive defeats under the legendary manager Jock Stein.
Recent Changes in Management
To further address the declining performance, Celtic has also parted ways with Paul Tisdale, the head of football operations. Tisdale had been in his position since October 2024. Additionally, Nancy’s coaching staff, including Kwame Ampadu, Jules Gueguen, and Maxime Chalier, have also been relieved of their duties.
Club’s Statement
A brief statement from Celtic confirmed the managerial changes and noted that further updates would be provided to supporters in due course. The club is now focused on rebuilding and strengthening its performance moving forward.
