The Philadelphia Flyers have secured center Christian Dvorak with a five-year contract extension. The extension carries an average annual cap hit of $5.15 million, as announced by the club on Monday evening. Daily Faceoff’s Anthony Di Marco first reported that negotiations were close earlier that day.

Contract Details

Christian Dvorak, 29, has made an impact in his season with the Flyers, scoring nine goals and accumulating 25 points in just 39 games. Prior to this extension, he signed a one-year contract on July 1, which had a $5.4 million average annual value (AAV). He became eligible for an extension on January 1, and this new contract provides him with long-term security in exchange for a slight reduction in his annual salary.

Dvorak’s Career Journey

Originally drafted by the Arizona Coyotes as the 58th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, Dvorak began his career with the OHL’s London Knights. He helped lead the Knights to a Memorial Cup victory in 2016. Dvorak made his NHL debut in the 2016-17 season and played five seasons with the Coyotes, helping them reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2020.

In the 2021 offseason, he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens for a 2022 first-round pick and a 2024 second-round pick, in response to losing Jesperi Kotkaniemi to the Carolina Hurricanes. However, Dvorak struggled to meet expectations with the Canadiens, recording 33 points in 56 games during the 2021-22 season but failing to achieve a higher total thereafter.

Career Statistics

Dvorak’s career statistics speak volumes about his journey in the NHL:

Team Games Played Total Goals Total Points Playoff Goals Playoff Points
Coyotes 573 114 274 4 5
Canadiens
Flyers 39 9 25

Overall, Christian Dvorak has established himself as a valuable player over parts of ten seasons, tallying 114 goals and 274 points across 573 career games. He will look to build on this new five-year contract with the Flyers as he aims for greater success in the coming seasons.
